Rural roads upgraded; bus services begin
The government has upgraded 76 rural roads and commenced bus services on 40 routes, starting January 1, 2026. This initiative aims to improve living standards and boost economic activity in rural areas with a budget of Rs. 5,000 million allocated for road development.

The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that bus operations will commence on 40 rural routes starting today. The Deputy Minister further noted that Rs. 3,300 million already set aside for the Sisu Seriya-the student service, Gami Seriya- the village service and Nisi Seriya - the night service transport programs.
