Former Governor repays fuel misuse amount
Maheepala Herath, former governor of North Central Province, has paid Rs. 1.17 million for misuse of fuel, as per an investigation by the National Audit Office and Provincial Council. This amount covers 11,320 liters of additional fuel used from April 2020 to June 2021.

Based on that audit query, a subsequent investigation conducted by the North Central Provincial Council recommended that the amount lost to the government should be recovered from him. However, although the Provincial Council succeeded in recovering the said amount from the former Governor, no action has yet been taken against the officials who facilitated this irregularity.
