Court To Decide on Calling PC in Chandrasena Case
The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (29) announced that it will deliver its order on June 2 regarding whether President's Counsel Rienzie Arseculeratne and his junior counsel Udara Muhandiramge should be summoned to testify in the magisterial inquiry into the suspicious death of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena.The inquiry into Chandrasena's death continued for the sixth consecutive day before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.According to submissions made by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), President's Counsel Arseculeratne and his junior counsel Muhandiramge appeared before court during today's hearing.A team of lawyers, including Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Rajeev Amarasuriya, appeared on behalf of the two legal professionals, representing their rights and interests before the court.Addressing the Magistrate, Amarasuriya stated that it was within the court's discretion to determine whether the two lawyers, identified as the 19th and 20th witnesses in the inquiry, should be officially summoned to provide evidence in the death investigation.After considering the submissions, Magistrate Amarasena ruled that both Arseculeratne and Muhandiram would be released for now, with instructions to appear before court if they are formally summoned at a later stage.
