IMF, SL Discuss Industrial Sector Growth, SME
A high-level meeting took place between representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti. The meeting, attended by IMF's resident representative Martha Woldemichael and two economists, discussed the progress of the domestic industrial sector and upcoming economic reforms.The discussions focused on the contribution of the industrial sector to Sri Lanka's economic stability, with the minister briefing the IMF team on policy decisions aimed at uplifting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and addressing challenges they face.The IMF delegation acknowledged the significance of industrial sector growth in Sri Lanka's economic reform process. Key areas discussed included removing barriers to production, simplifying export processes, and creating a favorable environment for foreign investment.The meeting also explored potential relief measures and financial facilities for local industries under the IMF's Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
