A sudden flash flood in Wangekumbura, Welimada turned deadly yesterday (17) evening, claiming the life of a 32-year-old woman while her husband, aged 37, remains missing. The couple was swept away by a powerful surge of water amid heavy rains that lashed the Badulla District.The District Disaster Management Unit confirmed the woman's death and said search operations are underway to locate her missing husband.
The body of the 37-year-old man was found this morning, and the 32-year-old woman's body was found yesterday (17) afternoon by residents. The woman's body is currently placed at the Welimada Hospital. The couple was caught in the water current last afternoon when they tried to cross a stream in the area following the heavy rain.
