Government Announces Toll Discount for ETC Users
The Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development has announced a ten percent discount for all motorists utilizing the Electronic Toll Collection system on the Colombo - Katunayake Expressway. According to the Ministry, expressway commuters currently have the option of paying their tolls via cash, cards, or through the automated ETC method. Officials highlighted that ETC users benefit from dedicated entry and exit lanes, allowing them to travel seamlessly without facing any traffic delays at toll gates.Currently, the ETC payment facility is operational at the Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya, Ja-Ela, and Katunayake interchange centers. The Ministry further revealed plans to expand this service to the Kadawatha interchange center in the near future, accommodating motorists entering the Katunayake Expressway from Kadawatha via the Outer Circular Highway.Addressing previous logistical challenges, officials acknowledged that vehicle owners initially faced significant inconveniences and were required to visit multiple locations to obtain the ETC facility. To streamline the process, a hassle-free online registration system has now been introduced through the official website, www.exway.rda.gov.lk. After registering online, motorists can collect their electronic sticker from any convenient interchange center. Commuters can then top up their ETC accounts using a bank card via the Govpay platform, enabling automatic toll deductions and uninterrupted travel on the expressway.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development has issued a safety advisory for motorists utilizing the automated lanes. Drivers are urged to maintain a strict speed limit of fifteen kilometers per hour at all ETC entry and exit points, and to maintain a safe distance of twenty meters from the vehicle ahead.
