The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the loss of a U.S. KC‐135 refueling aircraft during Operation Epic Fury, after an incident involving two aircraft operating in friendly airspace.According to CENTCOM, the incident resulted in one aircraft going down in western Iraq, while the second aircraft involved was able to land safely. Rescue operations are currently underway to locate and assist those aboard the downed aircraft.Military officials emphasized that the incident was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire, and no additional circumstances regarding the cause have yet been released.
The US military emphasizes that this air accident was not caused by an enemy attack or friendly fire, and that it occurred within friendly airspace. Two aircraft were involved in this operation; one crashed, while the other KC-135 aircraft landed safely. This is considered the fourth aircraft lost by the US in the state of war that began on February 28 between Iran and the joint US-Israeli forces.
