"All Sri Lankans Are Equal Before the Law"
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stressed that all Sri Lankans are equal before the law. Speaking at a public rally in Akuressa, President Dissanayake said Sri Lanka must transform its justice system and put an end to cases being dragged on for years without evidence being heard. He added that those who had once believed they were above the law are now becoming unsettled as the country moves towards greater accountability. The President, therefore, reiterated that no one is above the law and everyone is equal before it. Meanwhile, President highlighted that the government is functioning as a government should, while the party is functioning as a political party. He also said certain taxes are expected to be reduced in the upcoming Budget. The President further stated that the age limit for government care of orphaned children without guardians will be increased to 21 years. He said these children will also receive a monthly payment of Rs. 5,000 directly to their individual accounts from January. Meanwhile, President Dissanayake said fuel prices will continue to be controlled through subsidies, despite the recent rise in global oil prices.
