Yesterday (18), customs officers at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport arrested a Sri Lankan airline passenger. The reason for the arrest was an attempt to illegally bring 397 modern mobile phones, valued at over thirty-four million rupees
At the time of the arrest, the suspect was carrying this consignment of phones through the "Green Channel" at the airport's arrival terminal. He had brought this consignment of mobile phones into the country without proper authorization from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRC) and without making any declaration to the customs officers at Katunayake Airport.
