How much more a litre of Petrol 92 costs than a litre of Auto Diesel. Below zero, diesel was dearer.
From the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), which publishes the pump price of every fuel it sells. LakFeed checks CPC's price list every few hours, and each price shows the date it took effect and the price it replaced. If the prices cannot be loaded, the calculator says so and shows the last known prices with their date instead.
Pump prices are set by a pricing formula and are usually revised once a month, often at the end of the month, with the new price taking effect from midnight. Some months nothing changes, and a revision can raise one fuel while cutting another. The history below the calculator shows every revision since 1990.
Usually, but not always. They generally match a CPC revision, though they can announce their own prices or change on a different day. If the board at your filling station shows a different price, tap Edit price and enter it; the calculator then uses your price.
Fill the tank to full and reset the trip meter. Drive as you normally would, then fill to full again and note how many litres went in. Divide the kilometres on the trip meter by those litres. The calculator starts at 12 km per litre for petrol and 16 for diesel, which are only rough figures for a typical car; your own number will give a far better estimate.
Use the octane your vehicle's manual asks for. 95 costs more per litre, and an engine designed for 92 gains nothing noticeable from it. Engines that require 95, mostly high-compression and turbocharged ones, can lose power or knock on 92.
Treat it as an estimate. Real consumption changes with traffic, hills, air conditioning, load, tyre pressure and driving style, and city driving in traffic uses noticeably more fuel than a steady highway run. For a long trip, add a margin, or use the efficiency you have measured on similar roads.
Because a pump price stays the same from one revision to the next. A smooth line between two revisions would draw prices nobody ever paid. Yearly averages are weighted by how many days each price was in force, so a price that lasted a week counts for far less than one that lasted months.
