The short version
We store a headline, a short summary and a thumbnail, never the full article, and every item links to the publisher. If something of yours should not be here, email us and we will usually fix it the same day.
How LakFeed works
LakFeed is an aggregator. Software reads publicly available feeds and pages, and stores a headline, a short summary and a thumbnail for each article. We never store or show the full text.
Every item on the site links to the publisher's own page, because that is where we want the reader to end up. Sending you the traffic is the point of the site, not a side effect of it.
Before you file a notice
If your issue is a thumbnail, a summary that is too long, or a byline we got wrong, a formal takedown notice is a slow way to fix it.
Email [email protected] with the address of the page and what you want changed, and we will usually deal with it the same day. No lawyers, no forms.
If you want your publication off LakFeed entirely, say so. We will remove the source, not just the one article, and we will not argue about it.
What happens after you send a notice
We read it. If it is complete we act on it, normally within two working days, by removing the item or the source.
We then tell you what we did. If we think the notice is mistaken we will say why rather than ignore it, and you are free to send it again with more detail.
Counter-notification
If we removed something of yours and you believe that was a mistake, or that the use was permitted, send a counter-notice to [email protected] with the material identified, your contact details, and a statement of why you believe the removal was wrong.
We may restore the material between 10 and 14 working days after receiving it, unless the original complainant tells us they have started legal proceedings.
Claims made in bad faith
A takedown notice is a legal statement. Under 17 U.S.C. section 512(f) a person who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing can be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees.
We are a small site and an easy target for a notice sent to bury a story rather than to protect a copyright. We read them with that in mind.
Repeat infringers
If a source repeatedly gives us material it has no right to publish, we stop reading that source. Removing individual articles from a publisher that keeps republishing other people's work is not a fix, so we drop the source instead.

What a formal notice needs
Send your notice to [email protected]. To act on it we need all six of these.
The work you own
Describe what you say has been infringed: the article title, the publication, and the address of the original.
Where it appears on LakFeed
The exact address of every LakFeed page carrying the material. This is the single thing that speeds a notice up most.
How to reach you
Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
A good faith statement
That you believe in good faith the use you are complaining about is not authorised by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law.
A statement of accuracy
That the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act for them.
Your signature
A physical or electronic signature of the person authorised to act for the copyright owner.
What happens next
We read it
A person reads every notice. We do not run this through a filter.
We act, normally within two working days
We remove the item, or the whole source if that is what you asked for.
We tell you what we did
And if we think the notice is mistaken, we say why rather than ignore it.
