Tourism Surge Continues: Sri Lanka Welcomes 1.3 Mn

Sri Lanka has welcomed over 1.3 million international tourists so far in 2026. According to the latest report released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the arrivals between January 1 and July 26 have been recorded as 1,313,974. The report reveals that 167,401 tourists arrived during the first 26 days of July, bringing the cumulative total for the year past the 1.3 million mark. Earlier in the year, Sri Lanka recorded strong growth in January and February, with tourist arrivals increasing by 9.7% and 16.2% respectively compared to the corresponding months in 2025. However, arrivals declined in March, April and June before recovering in May. The latest figures indicate that the tourism sector continues to show resilience despite fluctuations in monthly performance. India remained Sri Lanka's largest source market during July, contributing 38,785 visitors. It also continued to lead cumulative arrivals for the year with 332,468 tourists, reinforcing its position as the country's biggest tourism market.
