Cabinet approval has been granted to provide a fuel subsidy for fishermen, the Ministry of Fisheries has announced.Under the approved scheme, small fishing vessels will be eligible to receive fuel at a subsidised rate of Rs. 50 per litre, with an allocation of 25 litres per day. The ministry stated that this subsidy will be provided for 25 days a month per small fishing vessel.For multi‐day fishing vessels, the fuel subsidy has been set at Rs. 150,000 per voyage, according to the Fisheries Ministry.The ministry further announced that the new fuel subsidy mechanism will come into effect from the 20th of this month.
