The Department of Meteorology has warned that the heat index, which reflects how hot the weather feels to the human body, may reach cautionary levels in several parts of the country today.In an advisory issued today, the Department said elevated heat index values are expected in parts of the Eastern Province, North Central Province, and the districts of Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Monaragala.The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to drink plenty of water to remain hydrated, take regular breaks in shaded or cool locations, and avoid excessive exposure to direct sunlight where possible.
