Rs. 500,000 for a job? Two Ex-Officials Arrested

Two individuals, including a former official of the Fisheries Department and a staff member of former Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.The arrests relate to an alleged bribery case involving Rs. 500,000 demanded and Rs. 245,000 accepted in exchange for securing employment at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.The suspects have been identified as Indika Bandara Wijesundara, a former staffer of the Deputy Minister, and Ralpe Gedara Manusha Dileepa Jayasuriya, a former Fisheries Department officer.Both suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
