Former State Minister Jagath Pushpakumara has been released on bail in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama ordered the former State Minister's release on two personal bail bonds of Rs. 5 million each.The court also imposed an overseas travel ban on Pushpakumara as investigations continue.Earlier in the day, the former State Minister was arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with a corruption-related investigation.
The commission informed the magistrate upon producing the suspect. 2,665,000/-, the Bribery Commission informed the court. Charges are also levelled against the suspect for inducing officials to provide 2,000 t-shirts and 1,500 sarees from the Chilaw Plantations Company, alongside 2,000 t-shirts and 1,500 sarees from the Kurunegala Plantations Company, to be given to participants of May Day rallies in the years 2013…
