CID Probes $2.5M Finance Ministry Cyber Theft

The Criminal Investigation Department has started an investigation into the theft of US$2.5 million by cyber hackers who accessed the computer system of the Department of External Resources of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.This follows a complaint made by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.The ministry says it has also informed the Criminal Investigation Department and the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank about the incident.The ministry further states that an internal investigation has been carried out and necessary steps have been taken regarding the cyber attack on the Department of External Resources system.The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs added that disciplinary action has been taken against several officials.
