European Union Commits €1.8 Million to Sri Lanka

The European Union committed a generous donation of €1.8 million, reaffirming its enduring partnership and solidarity with Sri Lanka during challenging times.Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath expressed heartfelt thanks to Ambassador Carmen Moreno of the EU to Sri Lanka and representatives from key EU nations-including Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Romania-who gathered to announce the vital support package.A portion of this generous aid will flow through the Disaster Response Emergency Fund managed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, ensuring swift relief to communities impacted by recent crises.Beyond financial backing, the EU is leveraging its European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO) to provide in-kind assistance and dispatch experts.
