LakFeed Is Now in Public Beta
After months of private testing with a small group of readers, LakFeed is now open to everyone. Here's what's in the beta, what's still being built, and how you can help shape what comes next.

Starting today, LakFeed is open to the public.
We've been running a private beta since May with a few hundred readers who helped us find bugs, stress-test the category system, and tell us honestly when something didn't make sense. Their feedback shaped almost everything you see when you open the app now. We're grateful for the time they put in.
What's in the Beta
Three languages, one feed. LakFeed aggregates news in English, Sinhala, and Tamil from sources across Sri Lanka. You can switch languages at any time, and your preference is remembered.
Categories. News is sorted into Sports, Business, Politics, Technology, Health, and a handful of others. We know the classification isn't perfect — see our earlier post on how the category system works — but it's useful enough to be worth shipping.
Source pages. Every article links back to its original source. Each source has its own page on LakFeed where you can read everything we've indexed from that outlet.
Search. Basic full-text search across all three languages. Transliterated search (typing "cricket" to find Sinhala cricket articles) is still limited, but it's on the roadmap.
Dark mode. Because.
What's Not Done Yet
We're being transparent about what's still in progress:

Personalisation. We don't yet have accounts or saved preferences beyond your language choice and theme. This is deliberate — we wanted to ship something useful without requiring sign-up. Personalisation is coming, and it will be opt-in.

Notifications. Push notifications for breaking news are on the roadmap. We're not shipping them in beta because we want to get the categorisation quality high enough that notifications feel signal, not noise.

Mobile apps. LakFeed is a web app. Native iOS and Android apps are planned. The web app is designed to work well as a PWA — you can add it to your home screen today.

More sources. We're adding sources continuously. If there's an outlet you'd like to see included, use the contact form.
How to Help
Beta means we're still learning. The most useful thing you can do is tell us when something is wrong: a misclassified article, a source that seems low quality, a layout that breaks on your phone.

LakFeed exists because Sri Lanka's news ecosystem is rich and its readers deserve better tools to navigate it. We're building in public, and we're glad you're here.
